Growing up in 1980's Watts projects in Los Angles, California, Lakesha M. Townsend witnessed atrocities that were imposed upon the inner city and its youth. She was virtually abandoned by her mother because of her mother's addiction to drugs. Lakesha struggled for many years years to find and create her own identity. In the midst of that journey, she made it her mission to meet her idol Whitney Houston.
The book looks into the heart of cultural beliefs, addiction, and the importance of support systems.
